A characterization of banach spaces containing L.

It is proved that a Banach space contains a subspace isomorphic to l(1) if (and only if) it has a bounded sequence with no weak-Cauchy subsequence. The proof yields that a sequence of subsets of a given set has a subsequence that is either convergent or Boolean independent.

NEW EXAMPLES OF c 0 - SATURATED BANACH SPACES II

For every Banach space Z with a shrinking unconditional basis satisfying an upper p-estimate for some p > 1, an isomorphically polyhedral Banach space is constructed which has an unconditional basis and admits a quotient isomorphic to Z. It follows that reflexive Banach spaces with an unconditional basis and non-trivial type, Tsirelson's original space and (P c0) ℓp for p ∈ (1, ∞), are isomorph...

Several New Characterizations of Banach Spaces Containing

Several new characterizations of Banach spaces containing a subspace isomorphic to , are obtained. These are applied to the question of when 1 embeds in the injective tensor product of two Banach spaces. Notations and terminology. All Banach spaces are taken as infinite dimensional, “subspace” means “closed linear subspace,” “operator” means “bounded linear operator.” If W is a subset of a Bana...
